the importance of being
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 12:11PM Yes, we are minuscule specks of dust in a vast universe. Yes, our existence is probably a scientific fluke of no remarkable bearing. Yes, we exist as temporary blips on a timeline that trudges on and on into the infinity of past and future. Yes, we are insignificant in space and time. Yes, our actions probably don't matter much in the large scheme of continuous motion. If you put it into mathematics, we are nothing.
So who the fuck cares?
I don't need to impress the universe or leave my mark among the planets. I do not need to be this type of a philosopher. Ramble all you want about the ramifications and the implications of our insignificance, debate the plausibility of higher beings that give us that meaning...the present day will still spin on and on.
The realization that we are unimportant does not mean you should just give up on life while you still can. I am perfectly fine with restricting my view to the present and future in my lifeline and living within those boundaries: I may not move planets but I am satisfied to live a life that is good to me and those who surround me. If all paths lead to the same ending (death) but one is infinitely more enjoyable at no cost to others, why would you feel content to do anything less?
You, you know who you are: you are free to live your life as you see fit but I'm afraid I'll always disagree on these grounds.
