For my first real American Thanksgiving (it's kind of a big deal here), I went up to Portland, Maine with Rachita to stay with Olivia & her family. The May family is one of those open families that loves taking people in; they are definitely people that love the world and are one of the most caring & hilarious families that I've ever met.
Christmas card material? I THINK SO
Unfortunately I've lost the memory card that contained (among other things) the Thanksgiving dinner photos, one hugeass turkey, and a table full of many excellent desserts. It also had photos from our Black Friday shopping rush (only in America would you have a holiday
dedicated to shopping, I know it's a huge marketing plot but
I still love it), so you're going to have to imagine our hard-won hauls and massive food babies. Fortunately, the photos I
did keep are from a few hikes that Olivia & her family took us on - so the views are incredible.
The experience of fresh air and natural settings is something that will never cease to make me giddy as a child; I still love the gritty city dust of Hong Kong but this is something of another class altogether.
I'm just going to ply you with images (UNDER THE CUT) for a while, because I feel like in this case they say more about my weekend than I ever could trivialize with words.
Note: these photos have all been on Facebook, but the hi res ones here are much nicer :)

yes, those are flowers in my hair...i can never resist!
"we went exploring down a little way, a narrow path, a careful story."
olivia's little brother rowan, who has wit like a knife
"the sheer spectacle of witnessing such a full color washed over us in sheafs; the light sank into our eyes and for those pure moments we saw all through a glass of the sun's own touch."

olivia is gorgeous

"the fragility of the world no longer seemed to weigh upon him. rather, the knowledge of this temporary balance filled his heart with a lightness: a breath for each second it thrived."
rowan is jesus
you didn't think I'd leave you without a typical strangefaced photo, would I?
this was an amazing Thanksgiving. I felt nothing but loved, awed, and carefree all the way through, and there is nothing to complain about in that combination. thank you to some of my favorite people ever for being so willing to take us in and make us feel at home when our own are seas away!
